About this Marathon

The Medoc Marathon (officially the Marathon du Medoc) is an annual marathon held in the Bordeaux region of France, typically in early September. Known for its unique and festive atmosphere, the race is often referred to as the “world’s longest marathon” due to the numerous wine stops along the route. Runners pass through the scenic vineyards of the Médoc wine region, sampling local wines and enjoying live music performances, all while dressed in costumes. The event combines athleticism with fun, making it a popular choice for both serious runners and those seeking a more relaxed and celebratory race experience. Participants run a traditional 42.2km course, but the focus is as much on the enjoyment of the journey as it is on completing the race.

The first Medoc Marathon was back in 1984. Founded by a group of wine enthusiasts and runners with the idea of combining two passions – running and wine. The Medoc Marathon typically attracts 8,000 to 10,000 participants each year.
