Marathon du Medoc – Course Outline
Distance: 42.2km (Full Marathon)
Location: Pauillac, Medoc, France
Start & Finish: Quai Antoine Ferchaud, Pauillac
Terrain: Mostly flat, on-road (asphalt), with some sections through vineyard paths and chateau grounds.
Key Course Highlights
Start Line – Pauillac (Km 0)
- Thousands of runners in fancy dress line up along the scenic Garonne River
- The atmosphere is a party from the start, with music and confetti.
Early Vineyards & First Wine Tasting (Km 2-10)
- The first few chateaux appear early, with the first wine tasting often around 2-3km in
- Notable early stops may include Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste or Chateau Lynch-Bages
Chateau-Laden Midsection (Km 10-30)
- This is the heart of Medoc wine country
- Expect 15-20 wine tasting stops throughout this section
- Famous estates like Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and Chateau Pichon Longueville may appear along the route
- Expect live music, food samples (cheese, bread, ham), and dancing in the vineyards
Seafood & Steak Station (Km 32-38)
- Oysters, entrecote steak, and more wine tasting – only in Medoc
- This part of the course is all about soaking in the experience – quite literally in some cases
Sweet Finish (Km 38-42)
- Final treats may include ice cream, macarons, and even white wine
- The crowd builds as you re-enter Pauillac and approach the riverfront
Finish Line – Pauillac (Km 42.2)
- Receive a medal, souvenir bottle of Medoc wine, and post-race picnic
- Live music and festivities continue well into the afternoon
